Great Missenden Parish Church Belfry
Chiltern Branch of the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers
We ring for half an hour before the main Sunday morning services. In previous years when we had sufficient ringers we also rang for other Sunday services a practice which would be nice to re-introduce if new recruits came forward.
We try to ring for special national occasions and on request for weddings again provided we have sufficient numbers and where unfortunately in recent times we have been dependent on “borrowing” ringers from other local Churches.
Monday (except Bank Holidays) from 6.45pm to 8.00pm when the full band try to meet and extend their skills. Additional practice sessions or lessons for new recruits are arranged at other times as necessary.
Other opportunities to ring
Many of our ringers also visit other local tower practice nights or join the local branch of the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers (ODG) which allows them to practice some of the more complex methods for which we have insufficient experience within the local band. In this way individuals improve their own ringing and hopefully help the Great Missenden band to progress.
Many towers and ringing organisations arrange outings to other towers and you may therefore hear our bells rung by visitors as they enjoy outings and this social aspect of ringing. Similarly ODG organise regular monthly practices with generally at least one visit during the year
