Centenary of the Armistice
Our commemorations of the centenary of the Armistice lasted all weekend, and had many different elements. The church was beautifully decorated with poppy flower arrangements, hand-knitted and crocheted poppies adorned the pulpit, wreaths handmade by Year 6 at Great Missenden CofE School sat in front of the altar and on the font, along with poppy wreaths made of tissue paper and rags by members of our MAP children's group, soldier silhouettes were on the windows, and our newly cleaned war memorial gleamed. A heritage walk around the village took in places where soldiers who died had lived with their families, the Friends organised a concert of World War One music and poetry by 'In Voice and Verse', we held two minutes' silence at 11am with many wreaths laid by community organisations and church was packed for the service afterwards, our choir sang beautifully and poignantly, our bellringers rang three times in one day, and after Evensong we lit a beacon. Thank you to everyone who was part of this special weekend.
