Jo Laurie cousin'My cousin Henry: From Ardbeg to Antarctica': Friends' talk

Friends of Great Missenden Parish Church are organising this fascinating talk by Jo Laurie, an ex-WRAF Officer, local artist and church member.

Related to Lieut Henry ‘Birdie’ Bowers, Royal Indian Marines, Jo Laurie gives a personal account of Birdie’s life and what led him to become a member of Captain Scott’s expedition to the Antarctic.
Against all the odds, he not only joined the Terra Nova crew but became a member of the ‘Pole Party’. His indomitable spirit will be proudly portrayed in an illustrated talk. Followed by a delicious afternoon tea.
Although Bowers died so tragically alongside Captain Scott and Dr Wilson, the story of his bravery, amazing fortitude and humour will live forever.

Free parking is available on the adjacent School  playground. Please buy Tickets from Samways in Station Approach to ensure entry,. Adults £10, Children under 12 Free (TEA included!)
