Bob Chilcott - Come and Sing
Experience a day’s singing with one of the world’s most inspirational choral composers and conductors as Bob Chilcott introduces his lockdown work, Creation Song at Parish Church of St Peter & Paul, Great Missenden, Bucks, HP16 0BA.
Creation Song is a 12-minute concert work for SATB choir and organ, with an upper voices refrain. It was inspired by Dippy, the replica dinosaur skeleton from London’s Natural History Museum. It was premièred in 2021 by the Norwich Cathedral Choir and local schoolchildren in a series of virtual workshops and performances from Norwich Cathedral. For Creation Song, Bob has selected texts from the Bible, and by a variety of poets, including the refrain by Thomas Traherne. The vocal score is published by OUP.

Bob Chilcott Described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British choral music”, Bob Chilcott has become one of the most widely performed composers in this field in the world.
His large catalogue of works (published by Oxford University Press) reflects his broad taste in musical styles, and his love of writing for singers. His output ranges from his much-celebrated music for young choirs to a number of larger-scale choral works including his Requiem and St John Passion. In 2013 he was commissioned to write the anthem for the 60th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As a conductor he is sought-after by choirs around the world, and since 1997 has conducted in over 35 countries. After leaving the King’s Singers in 1997 he conducted the choir of the Royal College of Music for seven years, and since 2002 he has been Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers. He conducts the Birmingham University Singers and teaches at Downe House School.
